How To Layer Neutrals

You can never go wrong with a layered neutral look when it’s done right. The ultra-chic minimalism that comes form layering rich neutrals can seem intimidating, and if this feeling sounds familiar, keep reading! We’ve got the fail-safe way to layer neutrals down pat, and now you can too.

Step 1: Start with a bright white base layer

If you run hot, start with a tee, tank, or lightweight pant. If you run cold, start with a button up, sweater, or heavier bottom. Regardless of what pieces you choose to start with, keeping your base layer will nip the complexities of layering right in the bud.

Step 2: Add depth in the outer layer with tans, khakis and beiges

This second layer should be a mid-tone caramel, taupe, beige or cream; It’ll be darker than your first layer, and lighter than your third. Grab your favorite trench, bomber, blazer, fleece, or fur, and throw it on! Here comes the cozy!

Step 3: Finish the look with a white sneaker and a brown bag OR a brown boot and a white or light bag

For your final layer, keep the brightness of layer one going by continuing that icy cool with a white sneaker and purse. If warmer tones are your thing, and you identify as more of a layering daredevil, introduce some new tones in the form of a brown boot or bag!
