On the final season of HBO’s Insecure, costume designer, Shiona Turini describes how she thought about dressing the main character, Issa Dee, played by Issa Rae: “What would it look like for someone, after all this hard work, who is finally becoming this established woman?”
The answer? Pulled together but, in keeping with Rae’s character, not normal. The looks sort of follow the rules but really re-interpret them. We love the traditional pieces, the 60s-era minis and very current graphic tops with loafers and a structured bag. Serious, but questioning authority.
As we try to figure out how to work in the new 9-5 WFH/Back-to-office hybrid combo, Turini shows how to pull it all together on one’s own terms without a boring, conservative piece in the mix.
